Post-Easter break was another credit crunch affair,
down to Maidenhead to stay with Richard in the
vicarage. Actually, it's not so much money and the
Euro / £ exchange that is he disincentive to go
abroad, but the hassle for a few days. Stansted,
Ryanair, security, unsociable hours for travelling,
etc. Much easier to stay at home, drive down the
motorway and get somewhere in good time without too
much hassle. Maidenhead in itself doesn't have a
great deal to offer, except the River Thames, but
places like Windsor and Eton are easily reached by
bike, and London in 30 minutes or so by train. We
had a day in London just pottering about and doing
some shopping, another day out on the bikes, nice
meals out (with the exception of one execrable
dinner where I had to send back my jumbo prawn
starter and the rib eye steak delivered to me
looked nothing like what goes by the same name in
Waitrose). And then back to respective bases to
launch in to work again.
