On
holiday (again !) for our summer break with the
usual group, and as per usual in France. I think
you’d call here Dordogne borders if you were trying
to sell your gite, but it is really the Limousin,
just south of Limoges. Ryanair flies to Limoges, so
handy if you have a place like this just under an
hour south of Limoges airport. The place we are
renting is an old presbytery - Presbytere Saint
Joseph - in the little hamlet of Pierrefiche which
is near Thiviers. Thiviers is the capital of foie
gras and it is a big duck, foie gras, and beef
area. Certainly when eating out there is a lot of
duck and its various bits (gesiers / gizzards) on
offer. Le Presbytere is a four bedroomed house,
with nice outdoor terraces. The decor is rural
French, which means a bit tatty and a bit
cluttered, but it suits our purposes and we are
able to spend most of the time outdoors enjoying
the weather and eating our home cooked meals on the
terraces. And, what with having to drive if we go
out, and the unrivalled expertise of our home
cooking (Richard et moi), it is often better to
stay at home and enjoy our own culinary creations.
The permanent party is David, Richard and myself, but we have had three guests already, and a fourth has now arrived. Guy, a vicar friend of Richard’s from Bracknell has spent a week with us, very vicar like and in to serious sight seeing. Kevin and Marcus from near Aylesbury came for four days, hiring their own car so were able to be independent. They have all gone and now Michael from Northern Ireland is with us until we leave at the weekend. Michael I know from my days as a student in Rome and we have kept in touch since then. Kevin and Marcus are friends of David, Kevin from long ago in Birmingham, Marcus more recently.
